Churchill Downs Jockey Club and Paddock BuildingLouisville, KY
The initial renovations to the Churchill Downs facility in the 1980s represented the first major improvements since the 1940s. Elements included an upgraded Jockey Club, Dining room, Garden Area and Paddock Building. In addition a turf track was added which required the rebuilding of the old Winner's Circle.
The planning, design and management of these projects was the responcibility of Eric Hansen when he was an employee of Luckett and Farley Architects.
The reuse of architectural elements previously hidden by past renovations and the relocation of the Paddock Building to a central location with new balconies surrounding the Garden Area for Paddock viewing were proposed by Hansen and incorporated into the Master Plan.
